This page shows my experiments with image arithmetic using subtraction.
In each example I've used a sunburst gradient filled image and combined
it with a picture of a seagull in flight.

I found that the divisor changed the overall lightness of the new image.
The divisor was 2. There was a range of bias values that produced somewhat
normal colors. Bias -132 was used here. If I went further negative
the image colors began to posterize. I also got posterization when the bias
was above -70.
