Seagull Image Arithmetic

Seagull in a turn This page shows my experiments with image arithmetic using subtraction. In each example I've used a sunburst gradient filled image and combined it with a picture of a seagull in flight.

Orange Sunburst This is a sunburst gradient fill that will be combined with the Seagull picture.

Result 1 I found that the divisor changed the overall lightness of the new image. The divisor was 2. There was a range of bias values that produced somewhat normal colors. Bias -132 was used here. If I went further negative the image colors began to posterize. I also got posterization when the bias was above -70.

Result 2 This is the result of image subtraction. The divisor was 3 and the bias was -80.

Blue Sunburst gradient fill This sunburst gradient fill was used next.

Result 3 This is the result of image subtraction. The divisor was 3 and the bias was -80.

Green Sunburst Gradient Fill This sunburst gradient fill was used next.

Result 4 This is the result of image subtraction. The divisor was 3 and the bias was -80.

Red Sunburst Gradient Fill This sunburst gradient fill was used next.

Result 5 This is the result of image subtraction. The divisor was 3 and the bias was -80.

Another Seagull in flight This seagull was used with green sunburst gradient fill to produce the next picture.
Result 6 This is the result of image subtraction. The divisor was 3 and the bias was -80.
